We’ve all had them: Bad hair days.

When the air turns humid, our hair can take on a life of its own. For people with damaged hair, going outside on a humid day can be a hair-raising experience.

So, what exactly is at the root of bad hair days? It’s called keratin, the protein that gives hair its structure.

Humidity in the air makes the bonds inside that protein break apart causing hairs to swell up and giving you the frizzies.

Even in the winter months when the air turns drier, your hair still may not cooperate. The cold air, combined with the dry heat in your home, can remove moisture from your hair, and leave it full of static.

So what can you do to improve your hairdo? No matter what the weather, if you keep your locks trimmed and well conditioned, there’ll be plenty of days when you won’t have a hair out of place.
