Did you ever notice how your spirits seem to lift when you slip on some shorts and head outside on a beautiful spring day? You’re not imagining things. Good weather really can lift people’s spirits.
In one study, the more time people spent outdoors in the warm weather, the more their mood brightened.
Not only that, but their memory got a boost, and openness to new information also.
Just 30 minutes outside is enough to do the trick, but the temperature has to be just right; 72 degrees Fahrenheit seems to be the magic number.
Hotter weather can actually make people more ornery. That’s more like it. So if warm, sunny weather makes you happier, shouldn’t everyone just move to Hawaii? Or LA?
Don’t pack your bags just yet. Research finds that people who live in warm climates year-round aren’t really any happier than those who live in, say, New York or Alaska.
Week after week of sunny weather gets old after awhile. I guess you need to make it through those harsh winter months to really appreciate the spring.
