Bananas, butter, bread.  If you’re like me, you spend a fair amount of time in the supermarket.

Why not work in some exercises for your lower body while you’re checking items off your shopping list?

Try walking on your toes to strengthen your calf muscles. It’s a simple exercise and can be done behind a cart without drawing much attention.

Lift your heels off the floor and walk on your toes, or alternate heel to toe. Don’t worry about counting steps; simply alternate your regular walks with your toe walks as you’re moving from one aisle to the next.

Carrying a basket or a large canned good? Why not do bicep curls as you’re from one aisle to the next.

Start with the basket down at your side. Raise it up with your shoulder and bring it back down.

Double up by doing toe raises as well. And don’t forget the opposite arm. Remember to keep your stomach tucked in.

While standing in the check out line, do calf raises. Stand in one place raise your heels off the floor and then lower them back down.

Before those heels hit the floor, raise the body back up. Just don’t forget to keep your stomach tucked in. Be sure to talk to your doctor before beginning any exercise program.

And remember, even at unexpected times, you can still fit exercise into your day.
