How Housework Can Burn Calories

Your household chores are a great way to build muscles in your lower body. Try these simple exercises you can do while your cleaning.

Housework might not be your favorite thing to do but did you ever think of it as an opportunity to work in some daily exercise. You’re already moving around, so why not have some fun with it!

Do you carry clean clothes up a flight of stairs? Toting a heavy load while skipping every other step is a great way to help strengthen your lower body.

Make sure you’re wearing shoes, keep your stomach in and lift your chest, all to protect your low back.

Take a step with your right foot skipping one in between.

Hold on to the laundry and work your way to the top.
You’re already walking with the vacuum cleaner, so why not work in some walking lunges to strengthen your lower body!

Pull in your stomach and take a step forward with your right leg. Lower your body to the ground and keep your knee from going over your toe.

Once you have your balance, take a step forward with your left leg, lowering your body to the ground keeping your knee from going over your toe.

See! You’re cleaning up and getting fit at the same time!

Be sure to talk to your doctor before beginning any exercise program.

And remember, even when you’re doing the mundane tasks, there’s still ways to fit exercise into your day.
