Soybeans are called the king of the legumes, and for good reason. The beans are in building materials, carpet, ink, biodiesel fuel and crayons.

In 1941, Henry Ford even built a car out of plastic made from soybeans.

Today they’re still used for the seat foam of ford mustangs.

Soybeans are the main ingredient in livestock feed. And they’re in lots of foods we humans eat, like vegetable oil, soy sauce, cheese, burgers, and tofu,

Soy is a good source of protein and it contains unsaturated fats, which are good for your heart.

Soy protein may also help the heart by reducing bad cholesterol and lowering blood pressure. It’s also been linked to a lower risk of certain cancers.

Soybeans were first domesticated in china over 3000 years ago. Today the U.S. is the world’s biggest producer, growing 200 billion pounds of beans a year. That makes them the second-largest U.S. crop after corn.

Soybeans come in different colors, including yellow, brown and black.

But for farmers, they add up to a lot of green.
