Trying to get some zzz’s, but all you can do is toss and turn? Paying more attention to what you’re eating and drinking might help.
Spicy or high-fat foods, as well as orange juice and carbonated beverages can cause indigestion and heartburn, which can make sleeping more difficult. Steer clear of these at least two to three hours before you turn in.
Also, avoid alcohol close to bedtime. Drinking a glass of wine may help you fall asleep faster, but studies show alcohol results in less restful sleep.
Skip that chocolate treat, too. Like coffee and tea, it has caffeine, which can keep you awake.
Finally, don’t try to squeeze in another glass of water before you go to bed. Otherwise, you’ll be getting up for more trips to the bathroom.
Changing your diet in these and other ways may be just what it takes to help make those sleepless nights a distant dream.
