Hey, Chef Kev here with quick tips for healthy cooking.
So, have you ever just wanted to phone-in dinner? Like, I’d rather get my teeth pulled than cook.
One way to solve your dilemma: wrap it!
…. drum beats…..
No not bust a rap…but wrap it… With a “w”
I always have parchment paper in the house and you should, too.
If you use the fancy culinary technique know as en papilote…. Or as those who are just as smart, but don’t know French call it, “cook in parchment paper” – you can make a simple… like really simple healthy dish!
Here’s what you do: Take sheet of parchment paper, about 14 by 12, and fold it in half.
Add some veggies, like squash, peppers, carrots, pretty much anything that tastes good roasted.
On top of that put on a piece of fish or meat. Now I use this mainly for seafood because for some reason it doesn’t make my house stink.
Then add some fresh or dried herbs… some olive oil… and maybe a little wine or stock on top.
Season with salt and pepper.
Then get a beaten egg. Or if you aren’t a kitchen nerd like me, some cooking spray and wet the edges of the paper.
Then start tucking them in…kinda like you’re making a calzone or pie.
Then put your packet on a baking sheet, cook in a preheated oven at 375 degrees for about 15 minutes. You can tell it’s done when the vegetables feel soft inside the paper. Pull out and cool and VOILA…you have a meal!
You can also do this by using non-stick foil. It won’t be called “en papiolte”…. but you can just call it “easy cooking in foil” or something like that.
