Have you ever heard that we use only 10 percent of our brains?

Turns out it’s a myth.

Scientists know this because they can see brain activity on imaging scans called positron emission tomography, or PET.

This is what your brain might look like if only 10% of it were used.

But this is how it actually appears in a PET scan.

What’s more, we know that damage to any part of the brain, even a small area, can have large effects. That would not happen if 90% of our brains went unused.

The truth is, we use 100% of our brains, and they’re active all the time, even when we’re asleep.

So where did the 10% myth come from?

No one knows for sure, but it’s long been a theme in movies, books, ads, and other popular culture.

It’s easy to see why. The prospect of unlocking your brainpower to become a genius…predict the future…or move objects with your mind Is alluring.

Unfortunately, it’s science fiction.

But you CAN give your brain a boost if you keep challenging it.

Learn a new skill… pursue a hobby… or take a class.

By staying mentally active, you’ll help keep your brain working at its full potential.
