If you have arthritis, a task as simple as getting dressed can be a challenge, but a few minor adjustments can make it easier.

If your joints tend to be stiffer in the morning, lay out what you’re going to wear the night before. Avoid clothes with small buttons or closures that are hard to reach.

Instead, go for skirts and pants with front or side zippers or bras that hook in the front. Or look for clothes with Velcro or pull loop fasteners.

Garments that you don’t have to pull over your head, such as wrap-around dresses, shirts and skirts, are also good options. So are outfits made of stretchy materials, which are easier to get over your arms, legs and torso.

Pre-tie neckties, and leave them tied. Loosen them enough so that you can pull them over your head.

For your feet, you can find aids for putting on shoes and socks, which let you avoid bending over.

Shoes that slip on or have Velcro straps are easier to deal with than those with laces. You can also replace traditional laces with elastic ones that don’t require tying.

With a few simple measures like these, your day can get off on the right foot.
