Designer sunglasses look sharp, but does it take a designer price tag to protect your vision? Here’s how to find sunglasses that will protect your eyes from the sun’s harmful UV rays.
There’s more to buying sunglasses than meets the eye. They can protect those baby blues or browns from the sun’s damaging UV rays, if you choose the right pair.
First, check the label. It should say the glasses block at least 99% of UV light. Wraparounds are best because they cover the whole eye and don’t let sunlight sneak around the sides.
Don’t assume darker is better. Colored lenses such as green or yellow can be just as protective as dark ones.
Polarized lenses are helpful for cutting down on glare, though they don’t offer more UV protection.
Whatever type you buy, wear them year round. And don’t be fooled by cost. Inexpensive shades can provide just as much protection as pricey ones.
Of course, they may not make you look as cool.
