For new moms, trying to exercise while caring for a baby can be a real challenge.

But now a growing number of classes are making fitness easier for moms by letting them bring baby along for the workout.

One option is a mother and baby yoga class, where you focus on deep breathing and gentle poses, while your baby is right there with you.

Yoga can help soothe postpartum stress, and the stretches will work out those back and neck kinks from carrying your baby.

At the end of class, your baby gets a special treat – a massage – for sitting so patiently.

There are also stroller workouts, where you push your baby along to get in your cardio, and then stop for a few boot-camp-style exercises to strengthen your arms, legs, and abs.

Like yoga, stroller workouts have the added benefit of giving you social time with other new moms.

Some stroller fitness programs combine yoga and strength training, using your baby’s stroller as a bar to stabilize you while you stretch.

For an aerobic workout that will make you sweat, and your baby smile, try a mommy-baby dance class.

You dance to the music, while baby bops along in a carrier.

There are also water workouts, which burn calories but are gentle on joints.

Your baby floats alongside while you work out.

Don’t have time to get out to a fitness class? Work out with your baby right at home.

If you’re just getting back into an exercise program, check in with your doctor first to make sure you’re fully healed from your delivery.

Start slowly, especially if it’s been a few months since your last workout. Gradually increase your intensity.

Try to work up to at least 30 minutes a day, 5-days a week.

Working out together will not only help you get back into shape, but also give you plenty of bonding time with your new baby.
